YONKERS, New York -- New York firefighters are being hailed as heroes after they delivered and saved a woman's baby who was born with the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck.
The four firefighters in Yonkers, identified Jason Minichino, Jorge Portillo, Anthony Quintano and Lieutenant Robert Clark, responded to the woman's Elliott Avenue home just after 1 p.m. Thursday.
When they arrived, the head of the baby was already visible. And as she came out, she was not crying and turning blue.
Quintano put his finger in between the baby's neck and the umbilical cord as Lt. Clarke held the baby's head, and she immediately started to cry.
They then suctioned the baby's nose and mouth, unwrapped the cord from her neck and fully delivered the baby.
The woman and baby were then rushed to the hospital, where they are said to be doing well.
