At about 7 a.m., officers responded to the 8200 block of Fontaine Street, where officers found the body the Richmond man who had been shot several times, police said.
Youth Empowerment School, a small school that shared the campus with King Estates Middle School in 2004 before it relocated, is located at 8251 Fontaine St.
The shooting was not on the school's campus, but it was close to it, an officer said.
