Authorities Tuesday afternoon released an image of the man, who is believed to be between 30 and 40 years old, from a surveillance video taken during the assault at the gas station at 310 East San Bruno Ave., San Bruno police Commander Marc Catalano said.

The man reportedly entered the gas station around 10 a.m. armed with a handgun.

He directed the woman into the beverage display cooler in the back of the gas station, where he sexually assaulted her, according to Catalano.

After the assault, the man took an undisclosed amount of cash from the register and left the gas station on foot going south on Second Avenue, Catalano said.

The man is about 5 feet 8 inches to 6 feet tall and 200 pounds. At the time of the assault he was wearing a blue-hooded sweatshirt with white stripes, a red T-shirt, blue jeans and white tennis shoes, according to Catalano.

He also had on a pair of glasses with a thick frame, Catalano said.

The woman, who had never seen the suspect before, is doing "the best that you could expect in a situation like that," Catalano said today.

Catalano said investigators are hopeful that with the public's help, the man will be caught. "It is a serious offense," he added.
