The warning comes as investigators continue to examine the signal system that failed to detect a stopped train and prevent the deadly Washington DC Metro crash.

Transit systems in some of the nation's largest cities, including those in the Bay Area, use similar technology to keep trains from colliding and investigators warn they could be affected by the same problem.

There is no word yet from /*Caltrain*/, /*BART*/ or /*Muni*/ on what, if any, inspections they plan to do. However, the agencies had previously said they have redundant systems to prevent such accidents.
