Woman arrested in murder of jewelry store owner

SAN FRANCISCO

The body of Lyn Magnuson was found by officers responding to a request for a well-being check at about 8 p.m. Tuesday at his business, Lyn F. Magnuson Design Co., located at 2100 Mason St. near Lombard Street, San Francisco police Officer Eric Chiang said.

Tanya Rains, a 58-year-old transient woman, was arrested on suspicion of murder and burglary after police found evidence linking her to the murder scene, Chiang said.

A 31-year-old man, Edward Hawk, was also arrested on suspicion of burglarizing the business, but is not facing murder charges, Chiang said.

The website for Lyn F. Magnuson Design Co. states that the business opened last December, and that the property includes Magnuson's workshop, store and home.

The homicide is San Francisco's 17th of the year, almost double the total of nine at this point in 2010, police said.
