Concerns over San Anselmo mudslide

SAN ANSELMO, CA

San Anselmo's Scenic Avenue is very steep and officials believe that water is coming down under the street. The road is now closed to cars. On one side of the street, there is an empty lot where there used to be an old house, neighbors say crews demolished the entire structure a couple of weeks ago.

Then last week the storms hit and now there is concern because of water and mud running down the hill. There appears to be some shifting of the ground. On the other side of the street there is an old vacant house that is being remodeled. The main concern is that the water is coming down onto the property where there is no obvious drainage.

"There is a lot of mud, but it usually just goes down and around. I didn't notice anything going down into this house. It seems like it would be very difficult to, but you never know, it might go right underneath the ground," said Don Brown, neighbor.

The town engineer said the house has not moved. On first glance it may look quite precarious but upon closer inspection it does have excavation and foundation work going on. It does not appear that any other homes are in the line of danger. But the rain is forcing people to keep a close eye.
