Embattled PA police chief starts retirement

PALO ALTO, CA

Johnson came under fire in October when she made comments that many say indicated her department was engaged in racial profiling to catch black suspects in a string of robberies.

Johnson made two public apologies to try and calm the controversy, but ultimately decided it would be best to retire after 34 years of service.

Assistant Chief Dennis Burns will be named acting chief as Johnson steps down.
