They came from as far as New Zealand, Japan, England, Mexico and Canada for the Berkeley Kite Festival and West Coast Kite Championships.
On Saturday they had winds out of the northwest at 14 miles-per-hour, with 20 mile-per-hour gusts. Perfect for launching numerous designs at Caesar Chavez Park near the Berkeley Marina.
There were centuries old kite designs in flight and several teams competed in the traditional Japanesse kite battles.
The festival continues on Sunday.
