Audubon society uses iPhone with bird count

Members of Golden Gate Audubon Society conducted their 27th annual Christmas bird count on Tuesday and some numbers are promising.

They used an iPhone application with bird calls called "bird jam" to lure the birds to different areas, such as Sigmund Stern Grove.

They did not expect to get the overall count until late Tuesday evening.

Still, some birders did spot more than 30 white-winged scoters off Fort Funston, which is significant because last year they only saw two.
