Trans fats banned at restaurants

California becomes the first state in the nation to ban the use of trans fats at restaurants.

The new law is one in a series of new ones going into effect in the New Year.

Trans fat is linked to heart disease and strokes.

Another new law raises the minimum fine for misusing a disabled parking placard.

Cities and counties will now be able to increase the fine up to $1,000.
