San Francisco's Coca-Cola sign goes green

SAN FRANCISCO

The Coca-Cola sign on the eastbound approach to the Bay Bridge has been up in one form or another since 1937, the same year the bridge was built.

The last one had been up for almost 30 years.

On Wednesday Coca-Cola flipped the switch on a new sign that uses special LED lights that consume 80 percent less energy.

The company is also purchasing wind energy to power the new sign.
