The Richmond City Council is buying more time for a proposed Vegas-style casino that could bring new jobs and revenue.

On Monday night, the City Council extended the deadline for the developer and city to negotiate over an Indian casino at the former Point Molate Naval Fuel Depot. The deadline was Friday, but now they have until mid-March.

The plan is for a $1.2 billion resort. Labor unions say it would add new jobs, but residents are divided. Some fear it would mean a rise in traffic and crime.
