Apple hints at hope for spotty AT&T iPhone service

Lost in the glowing news Monday about Apple's 1Q 2010 record earnings were comments made by Apple Chief Operating Officer Tim Cook about AT&T wireless service.

Cook told reporters in a conference call that AT&T has acknowledged issues in some cities. Cook said he has seen detailed plans to improve those issues, calling them "highly confidential."

AT&T has the exclusive contract for the iPhone but has been criticized by customers, who complain routinely of dropped calls and spotty service.
