Lawmaker proposes opt-in White Pages

State Senator Leland Yee, D-San Francisco/San Mateo, has introduced legislation prohibiting telephone companies from delivering the White Pages unless a customer opts in to receiving it.

By law, phone companies must deliver the white pages to every customer, but with so many ways to get a phone number, these directories often goes unused.

If passed into law, California would follow Cleveland and Miami in giving consumers the choice not to receive the directories.
