49er GM may be on his way out

The San Francisco 49ers may be in for a major change at the top. Matt Maiocco of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat reports that general manager Scot McCloughan appears to be on his way out and may resign.

McCloughan reportedly had a three-hour meeting on Wednesday with owner Jed York and other members of the organization.

After the meeting, files were removed from McCloughan's office.

McCloughan has been with the 49ers since 2005 as part of the Mike Nolan regime.

It is unclear what prompted the recent meeting, but the timing is poor with the NFL draft coming up next month.
