Lawmaker proposes changing school entry age

The minimum age for kids entering California's kindergartens might be changing.

State Sen. Joe Simitian, D-Palo Alto, Monday introduced a bill that states students starting kindergarten must turn five by Sept. 1 of the school year.

Under current law, children can enroll as long as they turn five by Dec. 2.

Simitian says his proposal would save $9 billion over 13 years.
