18-year-old man killed in Richmond shooting

RICHMOND, Calif.

The shooting happened at about 10:20 a.m. in the area of South 30th Street and Cutting Boulevard, Richmond police Sgt. Bisa French said.

Police received numerous calls about the shooting, and the gunfire activated the city's ShotSpotter system, she said.

The victim, a Richmond resident, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators have learned that the shooter approached the victim on foot, then fled in a dark blue, early to mid-2000s Chevy Suburban, French said.

The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
