Thursday night, the San Jose school board will make some tough choices about which programs to cut and which to keep to balance the 2011-2012 budget.

The district is looking at mid-year cuts of $16 million. To maintain education standards for young students, the district wants to create a middle school academy, bring back summer school for failing students, and add back in five furlough days.
