Oakland city leaders and families celebrated the opening of a new health center at Madison Middle School.

Students watched as Mayor Jean Quan and others cut the ribbon at the new facility.

The center will offer medical care, mental health, dental screenings, nutrition education and youth development services.

It is the first of nine such centers planned for Oakland schools.

It will be open to students and family members of the school, along with its feeder campuses.
