UCSF Medical Center puts robots to use in pharmacy

SAN FRANCISCO

Its pharmacy is now using robots to count and process patients' medications in an effort to improve patient safety. The hospital says not a single error has occurred in the 350,000 doses of medication prepared during pilot phase. The robots are kept in a sterile environment where the automated system prepares medicines, including toxic chemotherapy drugs.

UCSF says this will give hospital pharmacists more time to work with patients and doctors on drug therapy.
