UC Regents to propose another tuition hike plan

UC Regents will meet in San Francisco today to propose another tuition hike plan, one that'll ensure increases for the next four years.

The new plan would raise tuition by 8 to 16 percent every year through 2016. By then, basic tuition could top 22,000 not including other fees, books and room and board.

UC officials say the scheduled hikes would help cover $2.5 billion the system needs to pay its bills in the face of state funding cuts and are better than the unpredictable increases students have protested in recent years. A decision will come in November.
