Carmen Castellano worked at the school for 33 years. That was before she and her husband hit the California lottery jackpot winning $141 million. Her name now Graces the school's fine arts center.
Officials say they named it after her not because they got a big donation, but because she always supported the arts, even before striking it rich. "Before they were known as millionaires, they were people building community with us side by side along the way, always seeking to improve conditions," former county supervisor Blanca Alvarado said.
The Castellanos have another tie to San Jose City College: their son is a music professor there.
