According to a new study in the Journal of the American Medical Association, vegetarians live longer than meat eaters.
For six years, researchers studied 73,000 members of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, a church that promotes a vegetarian diet.
The study found vegetarians experienced 12 percent fewer deaths and were 19 percent less likely to die than meat eaters.
Researchers say one possible reason for this is that vegetarian diets tend to be higher in fiber and lower in saturated fat.
