Arrest made after drunken fight on SJSU campus

SAN JOSE, Calif.

Investigators on Wednesday arrested Kristoffer Bowen, 21, of San Jose, on suspicion of assault causing great bodily injury, campus police Sgt. John Laws said. Bowen has been placed on a probation hold, he said.

Police learned about the assault at about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday when a 911 call came in from someone reporting that there had been a fight and that the victim had a head injury.

Officers responded and found the victim on the sidewalk near the science building on Fourth Street, police said.

The victim never lost consciousness but was taken to a hospital for treatment and remains there today, Laws said.

Laws said Bowen and the victim know each other and were walking through the campus with a group when something sparked the fight. Neither Bowen nor the victim is a student at the school.

"None of them are associated with the campus in any way, shape or form," Laws said.

He said it is unclear exactly what sparked the fight but that it is safe to say alcohol was a factor.
