A total of three people were shot; one woman died, two other victims are recovering in the hospital.
Police were nearby and heard the gunfire at 14th and Broadway near Frank Ogawa Plaza at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday.
They also saw a crowd of people running for safety when the shots were fired.
No suspects are in custody.
