Three-year-old Bennett Nester is recovering from a brain tumor. During his time in the hospital in 2011, two strangers gave him a teddy bear to help him through the difficult time.
The act of kindness touched his family so much they started "Bennett's Bears." They collect and hand out stuffed animals to sick children. That effort so impressed one Vietnam War veteran that he gave Bennett his Bronze Star.
"He felt like Bennett was just as big a hero as he was, which is amazing. He's done so much for our country. I can't believe he would want to do something like that for my son," Bennett's mom Brande Nester said.
The stranger gave only condition of receiving the Star -- Bennett must do his best to soldier through his treatment and stick around to help pick another hero to whom the award can be passed.
