SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (KGO) -- The fans have spoken and they believe in Buster. Last year, the New York Mets' David Wright beat out Oakland's Eric Sogard as the "Face of MLB".

This year the MLB Network's social media competition concluded with the defending champ being dethroned by Posey who received 52 percent of the votes.

Posey has been the face of Major League Baseball for the past five years. He helped earn three World Series Championships and won a Most Valuable Player award.

But when he found out Thursday that he was the new "Face of MLB" he was his usual, humble self.

"Anytime you're voted on anything by the fans is special," said Posey. "Being here a while now, I understand how passionate Giants fans are and I always appreciate their support."

The Giants led a social media blitz on Facebook and Twitter. Besides bragging rights, Posey will receive a plaque at an upcoming home game.
