OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) -- Marriott employees in Oakland have joined thousands of workers already on strike at hotels in San Francisco and San Jose.

That makes 2,700 Marriott employees striking in the Bay Area.

Some employees have been marching in front of the Marriott Marquis and six other hotels in San Francisco since early yesterday morning.

A Marriott spokesperson has released the following statement: "We are disappointed that Unite Here has chosen to resort to a strike at this time. During the strike our hotels are open, and we stand ready to provide excellent service to our guests. While we respect our associates' rights to participate in this work stoppage, we also will welcome any associate who chooses to continue to work."
