Magnitude 3.0 earthquake hits Contra Costa County, USGS says
PINOLE, Calif. (KGO) -- An earthquake with a magnitude of 3.0 struck in Contra Costa County, southwest of Brentwood at 6:47 a.m. Monday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
The quake measured at a depth of about 10 miles.
The closer to the surface an earthquake starts, the more ground shaking and potential damage it will cause.

The quake struck roughly 5.5 miles southwest of Brentwood.
A 2.6 magnitude earthquake hit the same area on Sunday afternoon.
