As Black Friday ends, local businesses are banking on Small Business Saturday. Here's how the South Bay is giving local shops a boost.
Ambiance has been styling up San Franciscans for decades. Soon, however, the chain's most popular Noe Valley location will close its doors.
Crepes, candles, and gourmet caviar? A handful of new small businesses are opening in the space, and representing the Bay Area proudly.
At a tree lighting event in the Castro, Mayor Breed and Sen. Scott Wiener reassured people San Francisco in safe in their push for local holiday shopping.
"The last year and a half has been challenging, traffic was slow. Coming in this morning there was a line out the door, encouraging," said Jeannie Jarnot who owns Beauty Heroes store in Novato.
"There have been break-ins here as well but I think it feels like a safer neighborhood and there's a sense of community here that you might not get from the bigger downtown shops," said an employee of the "When Modern Was" store.
