Mountain lion spotted in Portola Valley

PORTOLA VALLEY, Calif.

At approximately 10:50 p.m., the cougar was seen in the vicinity of Applewood Lane near Nathorst Avenue, heading toward a creek behind 4370 Alpine Road, the county office of emergency services said.

Residents who see a mountain lion are advised to not approach it, especially if the cat is feeding or with offspring.

The county office of emergency services recommends that people keep a close watch on small children and avoid hiking or jogging at dawn, dusk or night, when the animals are most active.
