Shelter named in honor of slain councilman

FAIRFIELD, CA

The Women's and Children's Center is one of the first buildings that will be built at the organization's Bridge to Life Center, which recently finished its first phase of construction and is raising funds to complete successive phases.

Garcia's family was in attendance for the announcement, including his stepfather, Raymond Courtemanche, who is director of operations at Mission Solano.

The announcement took place at a private fundraiser at the Jelly Belly Candy Company's visitor center, where Jelly Belly chairman Herman Rowland and his wife hosted a live auction and dinner.

"The community has adopted the slogan 'keep the dream alive' to honor Matt," Mission Solano Executive Director Ron Marlette said in a prepared statement. "The Bridge to Life Center was important to him. We are all thankful that the Rowland family would help us honor Matt and support this center."
