Neighborhood Watch helps nab burglar

UNION CITY, CA

Jose Zuniga Jr. was arrested Saturday after the burglary, which was reported at about 5:25 p.m. on Hilton Street, police said.

A member of the Oregon Street Neighborhood Watch Group noticed a suspicious vehicle parked in front of a neighbor's house and called police.

Arriving officers arrested Zuniga as he was getting ready to flee with a large amount of property from the home, according to police.

Zuniga faces charges of residential burglary, possession of stolen property, possession of burglary tools, and a parole violation, police said.

The Neighborhood Watch Program is a partnership between Union City police and community members who work together to prevent crime. Officers regularly attend neighborhood watch meetings to discuss topics such as identifying suspicious activity, crime prevention, and ways to report crimes to the police.
