Drought threatens Mavericks surf contest

The world's best surfers are beginning to worry that California's drought will cancel the Maverick's Surf competition for this year.

The same weather system that has kept the Bay Area warm and dry is keeping the ocean off the San Mateo County coast relatively smooth.

Maverick's counts on breakers of 30 to 40 feet. Two dozen surfers have 24 hours to get here once the competition is announced.

If the weather is not right by March 31st, then this year's competition will be cancelled.
