CA governor sues to furlough more workers

SACRAMENTO, CA

The governor ordered more than 200,000 state government workers to take two days off each month without pay to conserve cash during California's budget crisis.

A Sacramento County Superior Court judge upheld Schwarzenegger's authority to do so, clearing the way for the first furlough day last Friday.

But the judge said his ruling did not address whether it applied to the seven other officials elected on a statewide basis.

The other constitutional officers, including the attorney general, secretary of state and treasurer, have said they will not comply with Schwarzenegger's furlough order.
