Voters pass measure to renew school parcel tax

BURLINGAME, CA

Seventy-one percent of voters in Tuesday's special mail-in election supported Measure B, which required two-thirds approval to pass.

The measure maintains the $180 per parcel tax for 10 years, with the money going toward restoring and protecting school programs. No funds will be given to administrators' salaries, and senior citizens are exempt from the tax, according to the school district.

Opponents, including local members of the Libertarian Party, had stated prior to the election that the tax was too high and "superfluous."

The elections office still has to tally about 200 ballots collected from the Burlingame City Hall and post offices Tuesday night, elections manager David Tom said.

The final results are expected to be available at 4:30 p.m. today, he said.
