It happened at around 11:30 p.m. as the robber was driving eastbound along Interstate 80 toward Vallejo.
Investigators say the suspect was wearing a ski mask and possibly carrying an AK-47. He pulled up in a late model Toyota Corolla and demanded money.
No one was hurt in the robbery and it is unclear how much cash he got away with.
