A bill to ban the use of hounds in the hunting of bear and bobcats passed the state Assembly Appropriations Committee Thursday.

The measure now goes to the Assembly floor before heading to the governor's desk for signature.

Animal rights activists say hound hunting is cruel to the dogs and their prey. Hunters argue it's part of their heritage.
