Mountain lion spotted near Miramontes Ridge

SAN MATEO COUNTY, Calif. -- A mountain lion was seen crossing a roadway near the Miramontes Ridge Open Space Preserve in unincorporated San Mateo County on Sunday evening, according to sheriff's officials.

The incident occurred around 6:50 p.m. Sunday and was called in to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office around 8:45 p.m. The caller reported seeing the mountain lion in the vicinity of Skyline Boulevard, or state Highway 35, and Misty Ridge Road.

The mountain lion reportedly crossed one of the roads and continued into the brush, according to deputies.

Sheriff's officials advise against hiking or jogging when mountain lions are most active, at dawn, dusk or after dark. They advise parents to keep a close eye on small children and pick them up in the event of

mountain lion encounter.
