SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- For the first time, we're hearing from the attorneys defending two Alameda County Sheriff's deputies accused of beating a Stanislav Petrov.

Several charges have been filed against deputies Luis Santamaria and Paul Wieber.

The case centers around surveillance video, which shows the deputies repeatedly hitting Petrov in San Francisco's Mission District, following a car chase.

The defense wants to know why the district attorney hasn't filed charges against Petrov.

"If two police officers are assaulted with a deadly weapon and they have this chase, and you have this guy, who is a career criminal, why not file? It's your county, it's your citizens," asked Bill Rapoport, one of the Defense attorneys.

The defense says the surveillance video is a key piece of evidence and will help them prove their clients' innocence.
