MONTEREY, Calif. -- A wild sea otter that entered the Monterey Bay Aquarium's Great Tide Pool in Monterey gave birth to a pup on Saturday.
The birth took place in the afternoon as visitors and staff looked on, according to aquarium officials.
As of Sunday morning, the mother and pup remain in the tide pool, resting.
The mother had most likely entered the tide pool seeking shelter from the stormy seas, aquarium officials said.
In December, another sea otter mother entered the tide pool's sheltered waters and gave birth, according to aquarium officials.
