Andrew Yang discuses All Americans Movement on ABC7's 'Midday Live'

Andrew Yang and digital media pioneer Bing Chen appeared on ABC7's "Midday Live" on Tuesday to discuss the All Americans Movement. The movement works to help minorities hit hardest by the novel coronavirus pandemic.

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Former Presidential candidate Andrew Yang is no longer in the 2020 race, but he's been busy addressing issues drove his campaign. While sheltering in place with his wife and two sons in upstate New York, he has co-launched a new movement for COVID-19 relief, with a star-studded campaign called All Americans.

Comedian Dave Chapelle, soccer star Megan Rapinoe, actor Daniel Dae Kim and actress Alyssa Milano are among many celebrities in the video sending the message "We are all Americans" and that the U.S. is a welcoming beacon for all people.

All Americans recognize that Asian communities have faced a surge in racist attacks while the Black and Latino communities have been disproportionately impacted in deaths and unemployment.

The movement brings together a diverse group of small businesses and non-profits to provide medical relief, combat racism and economic stimulus. To that end, fashion designers like Phillip Lim and Prabal Gurung have designed #AllAmericans merchandise with proceeds going toward those goals and support marginalized communities.

Andrew Yang and Gold House co-founder Bing Chen were on ABC7's "Midday Live" to discuss the movement.

"There are certain groups that are trying to scapegoat the Chinese government or the Chinese people in this crisis, and that's not acceptable, Yang said. "We're all in this together."

We also caught up with Yang to see what he's been up to during the shelter-in-place and how he's continuing his push to send more money to Americans.

Yang talked about his nonprofit, Humanity Forward which is being used as a platform to fight for universal basic income, human-centered capitalism, and data as a property right. Humanity Forward is also collecting donations for COVID-19 relief committing to bring basic income payments to individuals and families who stand to be most impacted by the coronavirus crisis.
