Oakland School District begins interviewing teachers

The Oakland School District will start interviewing potential replacement teachers Monday.

They will need nearly 2,500 fill-ins if the current teachers follow through with a planned one-day strike next month. The district says it is interviewing "emergency temporary teachers" Monday and Wednesday.

The district had advertised for the positions on Craigslist last week, offering $300 a day for substitutes willing to cross a picket line.

Oakland teachers have approved a strike for April 22 unless contract disputes with the district are resolved.
